DELHI - The Belgian Club has a new owner, but the former executive is being tight-lipped about the details.

A “sold” sign went up on the property in recent days. This brings to a close a sales process that began nearly a year ago.

Marc Vandenbussche of Delhi was president of the Belgian Club last year when the decision was made to sell the landmark property on James Street across from Delhi District Secondary School.

New home for archery club

DELHI, ON - The Delhi Belgian Archery Club has landed a bulls-eye in its search for a new home.

The club had been looking for a place to shoot ever since the Delhi Belgian Club closed its doors Jan. 1 of this year.

The archery club had already committed to welcome shooters from across the nation for the 2017 National Indoor Archery Championship and wound up moving the event to the nearby Hungarian Hall.

From that point on, executives from both the club and the hall began looking at a long-term solution.

DELHI, ON - This is shaping up to be a month of critical transitions for the former Belgian Hall in Delhi.

The Delhi Belgian Club has accepted a conditional offer for the property and will close the deal if the unnamed purchaser is satisfied they can put the sprawling property to the new use they have in mind.

“They are in a period of due diligence to investigate possible new usages,” Marc Vandenbussche, the outgoing president of the Belgian Club, said Thursday.

However, the Shields & Friends Lounge in the lower level of the sprawling complex will continue receiving patrons and serving drinks into 2017.

The Delhi Belgian Club, the site of numerous weddings, parties and concerts featuring big-name Canadian rock bands, will close at the end of the year.

The 14,000-square-foot hall is “just not viable anymore,” said club president Marc VandenBussche.

The club has struggled in recent years as its wedding business shrank, electricity bills soared and members withheld their annual dues.

Ready, aim...wait.

There has been no fire when it comes to the Delhi Belgian Archery Club since late September.

A group that currently meets three times per week and dates back to the late 40s is in a state of flux following a decision by the Delhi Belgian Club executive to close the facility's downstairs Shield & Friends Bar & Games Room due to financial concerns. Part of that includes the local archery club's shooting area and lounge.
