Delhi News-Record — The high cost of gasoline is making people think twice about expensive shopping trips to the city.
This in turn is making specialty events such as last weekend’s Christmas craft show at the Delhi Belgian Hall more attractive to residents who want the benefits of unique gift ideas without the hassle of commuting.
A total of 30 vendors were on hand Saturday for the Belgian Hall Ladies Auxiliary’s 13th annual Christmas craft show.
“It’s been a very good day,” auxiliary member Anita Van Herzl, of Delhi, reported. “This is a big event for us.”

Lucky shoppers were especially pleased to find a vendor selling high-quality table clothes and linen direct from Germany and Belgian.
Traffic was also high at the scrapbooking booth operated by Jennifer Kreller of Delhi, agent for Creative Memories of Minnesota.
Interest in the scrapbooking phenomenon continues to be strong. Kreller said people seem especially motivated these days to create an heirloom record of themselves for family members of the future.
“It’s becoming a very big thing,” Kreller said. “We’re encouraging people to keep a journal along with their photos.”
Delhi jewellery maker and stained-glass artist Yvonne DeVriendt said traffic through the Belgian Hall Saturday was fairly steady.
“I’m pretty happy,” she said. “I had a goal and I met it.”
All proceeds from the event will be invested back in the hall.
